Default '98 Headlight probs.

Just bought a used '98 Durango. 4days after buying it, I have the prob where the daytime running lights work fine, and so do the hi-beams, but not the main headlights. Any idea if this is main switch on dash or a short or something wierd like that?. Anyone else had this problem at all? Any help is appreciated thanks!

I take it you've cycled the lights from low to high? usually that does the trick.

Yes I cycled, but doesnt seem to work. Daytime running lights on and hi beams only work. Any other suggestions? Thanks!

I take it you must be in canada. I don't have daytime runners on my 99. lack of sound'n crazy, but aren't your daytime runners regular headlights?

Yes I am in Canada. All Canadian vehicles since around '91 have to have daytime running lights, unless the vehicle is older or imported. Everything made and sold in the country now have to have them by law...reduces accidents by approx. 30% apparently. They will run at 50% or so less than a regular headlight, so you have the daytime runner, then your normal headlight, and also the hi beam.

It's possible the bulbs are burnt-out, check for voltage at the bulb first
If you get no power to the low beams, they have there own fuse,
If the fuse is good the multi-Function switch fails all the time (On US Vehicles)
WOW.... I just went over the wireing diagram for the DRL's ...... GOOD LUCK!!!
I hope for your sake it's the bulbs, fuses or multi-function switch
If it's a wireing problem you'll need to find someone up there for help!!

Thanks for the reply JCswm! Looks like I got some figuring to do here..lol. Hopefully it is just a fuse or something simple like that (maybe a switch) Would almost seem weird that both headlights would burn out at the same time. Who knows, maybe the Canadian Durangos got the same probs as the U.S. ones as far a switch goes.

Sounds like the switch to me. There are some other previous posts that involve the headlight and the switch. I've replaced my switch after the cycling from low to high beam trick didn't work any more. I got my switch from the dealer less than $100 US.
