Just remember after you flushed your core and the heater is spewing heat back into your cabin, PLEASE check your coolant and radiator itself and have that thouroughly flushed as well. If your heater core is plugged up, it is a indication that your cooling system is contaminated and have debris build up. I would recommend you to check the rest of your cooling system otherwise your heater core will just get plugged again shortly or problems starting somewhere else in your cooling system.
I think I'm just going to bite the bullet and go to a service shop and get the whole system flushed... It's probably over due anyway, even though the previous owner said regular maint. was done...
Also, you can flush your entire cooling system using this same method, only using the lines running to and from the radiator. It will take longer, but will ensure that you have gotten any debris that was causing problems. I would suggest doing the heater core and radiator/block flush at the same time.

I've noticed that the heater in my 98 Durango takes a very long time to heat up. If I let my D warm up for 10 minutes before I leave, the heater blows warm, but not hot. It may take 20+ minutes of total run time to get hot air. Could this be a problem with the heater core? I don't know much about that kind of thing, so if anyone could point me to the root of the problem, I'd appreciate it. If it is the heater core, I founda heater core from a 99 Durango (same engine size as mine, 5.2L w/ AC), and I was wondering if it would be a suitable replacement for the heater core of my 98 with the 5.2L.

P.S. I called the local Dodgestealership an asked about the heater core flush. It is 2 degrees here and I wanted a price on them doing a flush. The guy told me he wants to meet the person who can flush a heater core in 15 minutes,he said the hoses are real hard to get at,takes at least 2 hours..I'm going over tommorrow to meet him.Ha ha!
