Default brakes on a 2000 slt..help!

Well I changed the pads on the front of my wife's 2000 SLT a month or two ago. Now the metal "retainer clip" that goes on the bottom of the caliper has popped off! It looks pretty bad. Unfortunately I was headed out for work when she pointed it out. Can someone tell me how to repair this? What is the proper way to re-sit this piece when putting the caliper back on the rotor?
Also does someone have a pic of the piece installed correctly? I know there was a great write-up on here some time ago, but i searched and couldnt find it. again, any pics would be greatly appreciated. If you cant host them here, please email them to me devongoble@yahoo.com.

Thank you!
Devon

Thanks,

had this happen to me twice on my D after a brake change at Midas they said it happens oftem=n enough on the D's that they've done. I popped it back in the first time and then I heard my brakes doing it again so I pulled the tire and it of course fell out on the ground. THat time I took some pliers to it and put more bend in it then took a tack hammer to pop it back in. It's nice and tight now.

WOW. The driver side had popped off and eaten up and nice chunk on the inside of her rim! VERY mangled! The passenger side on literally fell off when the wheel was taken off. NAPA part number 83383 is the replacement. Not too bad. $12.49 for each one. Still was a huge p.i.t.a. to put on. leverage with a screwdriver and whack it with a hammer. Still one of the worst brake designs i have dealt with!

I agree with you DeBaGo. I thought I would chnage my brakes a few months ago, turns out the day I had off was about -3 degrees celcius (like 28). That stupid clip almost had me leave my D on the axle stands for the rest of the day. Fumbling around with that damn clip, when its frozen, and my hands awfully numb at this point was a major PITA!

It's not that hard to get on. I did it in the dark both times...

Yeah I understand that. mine did it in the summer so I didn't have that problem. I just couldn't see what I was doing.
