RPM low, 'PICTURES INSIDE'
hello everyone i just bought a 2001 dodge durango sport 71K miles acouple days ago, and when i am at a red light holding my brake my RPM are at "half of one" right on the line and it feels like its about to stall out, acouple times it even did, what i noticed is when i turn my a/c on my RPM rises and my car seems to run alot better, is there anyway i can raise my idle i think if i do that it will stop my problem.
PS: im just learning about cars im only 18 years old so try to brake it down for me please
thankyou every one! this is very frustrating to me, i just bought this for $7,500.
this is when i'm at a red light in drive, when it drops alittle lower then that thats when it stalls.
this is when i turn my a/c on, car runs GREAT like this
what are some things i can try to have my RPM like this without my a/c on

My bet would be that your throttle body is a bit dirty and just needs to be cleaned.
Under your hood, find your air filter box which is on the passenger side fender well, and follow the ribbed black hose from it to the top of the motor. There should be a large hose clamp securing that hose to the front of the TB. With the engine off, remove the hose and use some spray carb cleaner to clean out the inside of the TB. There is a moveable metal flap there, and you can open it just a bit with your hand and spray behind it as well.
Be careful not to get too much cleaner in there at one time. It should evaporate on its own though, and just know that this cleaner is highly flammable so no fire or open flame while you are using it.
The reason your D runs better with the A/C on is that the computer raises the idle a hundred rpm or so to make up for thr drag of the compressor.
Give this a shot, and let us know what happens.

Just a littls FYI also my D idles at about 600 rpm your's looks like it's almost there at 500. You may want to tighten up the throttle cable just a hair.

You're look in the right place you just need to take that air hat off of the TB. As for the throttle cable it is on the left of the tb if you are standing in front of your truck looking under the hood. You will see 2 cable one is the shift cable and the other is the throttle. just pull on the cable with the engine running and if it revs up you found the cable.

Sorry about the mis direction on the TB, I was thinking of my 95 Taurus and have not yet had to clean my TB. After checking, I see that Mean Green was right that the air hat needs to come off to expose the TB.
Now that you have done some cleaning, try disconnecting the battery and pressing the brake pedal for 30 seconds to drain all power from the car and reset the computers. It may need to relearn things now that you have cleaned them.
If this does not work, your IAB Idle Air Bypass valve which I believe is mounted somewhere on the TB might need to becleaned.
Since I have not done this myself, I will ask that someone who has guide you through it or you might be able to do a search here and find the info in another post.
Sounds like you are heading inthe right direction. Don
