Default 99 Durango overheating....

As usual once i fix something, another thing goes wrong. well I have the problem of the Durango overheating at idle. I've looked around the forums and I am assuming it's one or a combination of things. The first being a fan of some sort that is suppossed to click on at certian temperatures? Then the battery doing some sort of funky mumbo jumbo but I don't usually have a problem with that. Possibly the oil because I'm slightly overdue for a change. Lastly the thermostat. When the head gasket and two cylinderheads blew a little over a year ago due to a thermostat issue the mechanic replaced the thermostat with one this is suppossed to stick open if there's a pressure drop? I'm barely mechanically literate when it comes to these kinds of things. I'm a weapons tech not a mechanic unfortunitely. If anyone has any insite into the matter I'd appriciate it, I'm stuck in Indy so if anyone wants to take a look at it I'd probably be willing to open up a spot in my schedule. Any help is appriciated. The AC doesn't work either if that has anything to do with it.

PS: It's a 5.9L 4x4 with 127xxx miles on it.

I'd suggest a good flush first off then after that I'd look at your fan andt-stat (again go with jet or OEM no autozone specials they fail every other time).
I am about 99% sure it is your fan because you said it only starts overheating at idle which is pretty much the only time you need your fan really. I have also had a t-stat get stuck halfway open and at idle it would begin overheating because the coolant wasn't flowing fast enough but when I revved my engine it would drop back down because of the increased pressure forcing the water through faster. Both of these fixes are very easy and if you picked up a chiltons or haynes manual you would have no problems at all.
