Hi,
i was wondering if my 97 neon has bad gas mileage. I get about 400km on a tank (47L)
I changed my egr valve thinking it would make a difference, and i havent noticed any difference yet.

If this is a bad fuel to milage ratio, what can i do to use less gas?

 

According to my quick conversions you are getting an average of about 25-28 mpg. Seems about right to me. Do you have an auto or manual?

 

yeah 25-28 is what i usually get depending if i have a full trunk of crap. and i have an auto with 205k miles on it.

21 mpg seems low for a Neon, unless you are doing all city driving then I could see that being possible.

If you are doing a mix of city and highway that seems low to me. Are you throwing any codes? Have you not done a tune up in a while (plugs, wires, air filter, fluids, etc)? Have you not done an alignment in a while? Are you tires properly inflated?

 

what gutted said! youd be amazed at what little things can do to our cars? also whats the history on your engine?do you change your oil regurly?past engine problems could result in low gas mileage. also how many miles on your car?

 

I get about 20MPG, but my longest trip is 2 miles to work, and that's all city driving. When I drove from PA to Indianapolis last year, I got all but 40 MPG on the highway.
