So I know everyone knows what Im talking about. It that big chunk of metal or whatever it is in the center console. I was wondering how in the hell do you get it out and if it is necessary to be in the car? Im just trying to do some mild weight redux and I remembered when I painted my center consol that this thing was was pretty heavy. Any info on if its inportant or how to get it out would be great. Here is a pic of the thing I am talking about about, I found this on another forum.

that steel actual helps hold the center councel on dont know if you need all of it but if you have a metabo you may be able to chop off the part that cradles the junk holder.

 

Do All Neons Have That Nasty Looking Interior I Hate The Colors Its Like Random Color Put Together So i GOt Seat Covers For The Time Being they look like crap but better then nothing but my drivers seat is reapolstered which i might do with my passenger seat it prolly wont be exactly the same though

Yeah its inside the compartment of the center console and I was just wondering if you could remove it or not. Its heavy as hell so thats why I was wonderin. Oh and he wont over run my thread lol

ok here it is....i just parted out a 96 neon about a week ago and it was the 1st one that ive ever seen with that piece in there......so
it is actually solid aluminum
if you take the piece out then your center console wont be secure.....only bolts that will hold it down wil be up by the cup holders...
if you want weight redux, then find a console out of a 97-99 neon...instead of having that chunk of aluminum, they only have a small metal bracket..

you remove it by the 2 bolts on each side.....if you look at the sides of your center console by where the seats would be, there are 2 small access doors that you can pull off.....this is where the bolts are located...

 

95's didn't have them either

 

thats what i thought....dont know why only some 96's did though
