welp, its amazing how easy it was when i got the right puller, altho it wouldnt get it off yet, it wasnt deep enough so i improvised and put a socket over the hole of the puller and then put the rod into the crank. i didnt realize how friggin hard this project was going to be. in 14 hours or so into it and i have around 2 hours left. it was getting dark and at the end of a long day i got it started and come to find out i plugged the iac plug into the map and it ran like ****, after i fixed it it ran better. we will see in the morning.

quick question, i left the seal out of the timing cover thats behind the cam pully. is it going to leak oil? im pretty sure it will so i will have to reinstall it. hopefully tommorow will go smooth so i can finish this.

these cars are a joke to work on. makes me realy love my ranger...... i hate having to take so much stuff off to do anything..

They are also easy cars to work on...you just got one of the toughest things to pull off first.

 

I agree with das, these cars are pretty easy to work on. I am 14 and do all the work on mine, headgasket ect. but the balancer is a huge pain if you dont have the right tool, I went through a pulley and hours of time on that one. I went to autozone, paid 60 bucks to get the chrysler/mitsu puller (which I got back when I was done with it) and had it off in five minutes, my only problem was that the rod they give you is a little too short, but luckily I had an old pushrod from a 350 laying around, worked like a charm

 

i disagree, i turned a wrench for two years and this car is one of the hardest ive ever worked on. ive never had to take so much crap off to get a head off........ not to mention the motor mount through the timing cover is one of the stupidest things ive ever seen

fordboy_52, certain tools are very good investments. For example, a good set of 1/4" drive sockets and rachet works wonders, and the crank puller is always something you can use. Also, every car is different, and you learn little tricks and secrets as you work on it more. Don't be discouraged.
