Dude from the machine shop said it needs all the exhaust valves and 2 intake replaced. Including the gasket set and head bolts total of $400. Is this in ball park? He was recommended by some friends and 1 mechanic. He said bolts and complete gasket set was a buck fitty.

More than I thought, but seein as how I got the car for free (actually traded an old go-ped) I guess i can't complain.

How much of that price is parts (valves)? Have you considered finding a used head from a wrecker in better shape to start with. I’m not sure but it may save a buck or two.

He said the valves were like $9.25 each, but it'll be like new when I get it back.
