Default Lifters?

Ok I am starting to fix this neon up by painting it, and tuning the engine up. I have a question about how to adjust the lifters or w/e you do to get rid of the ticking noise. I'm tired of listening to the ticking so I am gonna try and fix it. I'm new to working on engines so someone help me out, and let me know what I need to do to adjust the lifters or w/e, Pictures of where the lifters and adjustments places are would be great. any help would be great. Thanks alot.

The lifters are under the valve cover. The tick is usually oil starvation or could be a cracked lifter. If you have a DOHC use the PT cruiser valvetrain.

or it could be the injectors. but on a Neon, most likely not. unless u have the 2.4L swap.

The lifter are self adjusted, there's no adjustment. If you think there a lifter sticking, add atf to the oil and drive 5 miles and change the oil.

alright I'll try the atf thing first. If that doesn't stop the tick what do I have to do, change out the lifters if there not adjustable? Also my car is a sohc can you still use PT cruiser valvetrain?

Yes you would have put in a new lifter. You can't use the PT valvetrain on a SOHC head.

how tough is it to change lifters? Do I only have to take of the valve cover? Someone just give me an idea of how to do it. I'll be trying the atf first. If that doesn't work I'm gonna try and change it if its not real complicated.

It isn't too bad...
REMOVAL
(1) Remove valve cover
(2) Identify the rocker arm shaft assemblies before removal.
(3) Loosen the attaching fasteners. Remove rocker arm shaft assemblies from cylinder head.
(4) Identify the rocker arms spacers and retainers for reassembly. Disassemble the rocker arm assem-blies
by removing the attaching bolts from the shaft.
(5) Slide the rocker arms and spacers off the shaft. Keep the spacers and rocker arms in the same location
for reassembly.

INSTALLATION
CAUTION: Set crankshaft to 3 notches before TDC before installing rocker arm shafts.
(1) Install rocker arm/hydraulic lash adjuster assembly making sure that adjusters are at least
partially full of oil. This is indicated by little or no plunger travel when the lash adjuster is depressed. If
there is excessive plunger travel. Place the rocker arm assembly into clean engine oil and pump the
plunger until the lash adjuster travel is taken up. If travel is not reduced, replace the assembly. Hydraulic
lash adjuster and rocker arm are serviced as an assembly.
(2) Install rocker arm and shaft assemblies with NOTCH in the rocker arm shafts pointing up and toward the timing belt side of the engine. Install the retainers in their original positions on the exhaust and intake shafts.
(3) Tighten bolts to 23 N·m (200 in. lbs.) in sequence shown in pic below.
