Default Dodge Neon Transmission Problem

Ok, I have a 1995 Dodge Neon 4 door. The transmision goes into reverse and works fine, however it takes about 5 min to warm up and then slides into reverse. The rest of the trani seems to work fine. I have been told many things of what the problem is, like it needs an O ring? I do not have trani education. Can anyone give me some advice as to what might the problem is and where to go for a trani inspection. I live in Fresno, Ca. And I do not have a ton of money to spend. Is there any truthful mechanics out there? Also I am getting very bad gas mailage. It has 108,00 miles and all the fluids are full and changed recently. Is it just wore out or what? It is my wifes car.

Thanks,

Dan

Is the level OK? Was the reverse band adjusted/tightened when the the filter was changed?
