Default Early 331 Hemi into 1997 Neon

Hi

I know this sounds ultra red neck but I'm sick of my 331 Hemi laying in the garage collecting dust and instead of blowing $3000 for a 250Hp turbo motor why not throw a 420hp Hemi in the car and see how that runs? I have a few Chrysler Hemi's and I am pissing my pants to seeone of themrun in a car.

Well the car is a 1997 2 door Neon and the Engine is a 1952700lb Early Chrysler 331 Hemi that is built up and waiting for a home. Challengers and Cuda's are $5000 all day in horrible condition just the badge that says Cuda or Challenger they sell for $3,000 so with a free Neon I got from my sister I thought it would be a great Idea to see those Rice drivers faces when they see the hood popped on a Neon and see a 331 Hemi squeezed Inside, they would know they were owned just looking at it. Pretty much i did the math light car + Hemi = massive ownage.

Pretty much I dont care about anything under the hood as it will be sacrificed for the Hemi. The Hemi is 30 inches across and about 30 from back of heads to where thefan pully would sit with Hemi inand with that said theres only about an inch of clearence between the fan and radiator so I will have to move the engine back at least a few inches to allow safe clearence, also the only problem I really see is the master break cylinder being in the way that will have to be remounted. I have no problems with gutting the engine bay and cutting it apartand doing major fab work to the fire wall and making engine mounts as I have a welder and cutting torch.

I want to know if anybody has ever attemped a V-8 or Hemi into a Neon before and what they all did as a refference to my building my own. A few years agoI could have sworn I seen in Mopar Action Magazine somebody throwing a 426 Hemiinto a Neon but that has been a while and I'm not sure if I deamt it or made it up in a day dream. I seen the 426 Hemi in a PT Crusier issue but beyond that I'm not sure anything like this has been done before in a 1st generation Neon.

If anybody has any advice or anything that they think is important to mention please advise me : )

Heyjack *** who's got $5,000 to stick into a 400hp 4 Cylinder? I can mod the hemi to fit for way less than $500why notstick a Engine in that allready has 400hp all the time without Turbo lag?. I havea '984cylinder Neon been there done that now I want totake this secondNeon to places where it will get real respect from real muscle cars. You should be happy I'm reviving the car instead of letting it go to the Junk Yard. I'd rather see a real chrysler product in it (Hemi) than a DOHC Mitsubishi inspired engine.

I can garuntee if You had Your Neon all built up with the most insane4cylcomplete withgold plated valve cover with diamonds on itthat there would stillbe more people checking out my Neonin awe of that Hemi engine under my hood. Why would I build a 400hp 4 cylinder when i can stick Half the money into the Hemi and make 800hp if needed.

Nothing says "YOUR OWNED" like a Hemi under the hood.

I think your just jelious I havea Hemito waste on a Neon.

then you should start by not having a neon

there are planty of people that have money to spend on a hellofa motor for the neons.....and no turbo lag...

an old hemi deffinetaly will not be an easy swap and i would love to see it done for less the $500

V8 swaps into a neon have been done, but don't expect any help from anyone on these boards as noone on here has attempted a swap like that before. The V8 swaps I have seen are still slower than a turbo'd neon and you honestly won't get respect because afterall it still is only a NEON!

Here are some pics for your inspiration though..

its never just a V8 "swap"
\its called $$$$$$$$ neon body on fabricated tube chassis$$$$$$$$$$$
more like hacking you car apart and making it look good on an old pro street chassis thats beeen shortened.

atleast you want to put a mopar in i saw a chevy in one.im not jelious it'sjust it will look ugly if not done right.i have a 455ho pushing atleast 420hp and with two turbos it could be 1800+ so i would not be afraid of it.a turbo neon is no joke its pretty fast and quick because of the lbs of it all.$500 is not going to do it atleast $2000 probably way more and why not sell the neon and buy a roadrunner or something hot rodders could repect?
