Default CAM Question - which is better

Looking at moving into Improved Touring Class racing next year

Looks like I can change out the CAM on my factory stock DOHC engine

What would be the best performance CAM to install on a Stock DOHC engine
Crane? Crower? Others?? And which CAM - I see a bunch from Crane #10, #12, etc?

Thanks

Crane #14 would be a great addition. You need to upgrade your springs as well too.

Thanks DAS

As usual - you have good info!!

I was curious if the 14 would be too much on a Stock Engine - I read a post where the car would not idle very well with #14 - but figure they might had a bad setup

you have any #14 for sale? or can you recommend a seller? I was looking on Howell

Any particular Spring you would recommend?

Also - I dropped you a note - thanks for the ThrottleBody - mounted it last night -hope to be driving the car today trying to get ready for this weekends race.

I would stay away from Howell and I'd recommend Modern Performance for the cam.

Crane springs only.

Howell is ok; If you order from Modern Performance you'll get your product way faster though.

With the cam 14, I wouldn't be taking my car up to the rpm that the cam is capable of on stock internals. U also shouldn't get the cam 14 unless u have some mods to support it.

the thing thats sucks about howell's shipping times is that he has some stuff modern dosen't if he would fix his shipping i might shop there but i don't fell like waiting more than a week for any product and he has been known for shipping taking months[&:].go with modern for what you can get from them so that you get it on time.

It seems no one has the cams in stock
Modern does not have the CraneSprings nor retainer in stock - possibly 2 weeks out.
Howell has the Crane Springs & Retainer in stock and price matched Modern.

I am a little bit cautious on the #14 CAM - both Howell & Modern have it speced out as Turbo - which I will never be.
#12 Cam is for the bottle, which I will never be - and #10 Cam is for a little extra HP in the mid range area
Anyone have dyna stats with just a Cam upgrade?

Hey Das - what Mods are you running with a #14? I like the idea and I figure you are recommending/suggesting the #14 from either knowledge or experience or both? Just out of curisity - did it ideal extremely rough?? any issues on the power thought out the band with stock components?

I amon a tight time-schedule to get the race engine completed as there is an Improved Touring race next month.

I know a couple people who have the Crane #14 on a N/A motor and it runs and idles great. They also have a CAI, header and ported/polished head as well.

If you don't have any or all of the above, you may want to stick the Crane #10, but from what I hear it isn't worth it.

Augh - sometimes I hate being factory stock - but other times I am really glad I am factory stock.

I think in IT class I can do CAI - but header and port/polish headI think are a No-No!

Decisions - Decisions - Decisions!!

I guess I might have to splurge and experiment with the different cams to see what will work out the best!

Thanks das!!! always appreciate your input & suggestions

i just cant wait to hear the idle of the motor with them in there...
