Default 1996 Neon Sport Battery Light???

Hi. I have a 1996 dodge neon sport with around 163,000 kms on it. The car had some lighting issues like all the lights being buggered up, but I got that resolved. It has been sitting for 2 years and I finally pulled it out again. I changed plugs, filter, oil, (and all the other routine maintanence things). The battery light is on and it won't go out. I checked the battery with a volt meter and it read 4.4 with the car off. Started and running it reads 14.4. Well I'm pretty sure the battery was toast (low water and being dead through 2 very cold winters) I bought a new one thinking that could be it. Well it still stays on. There was a broken fog lamp (I think) bulb hanging down so I took that out. There are some connectors at the front off the car not hooked up to anything, but I don't think that's it.

What do you think is causing this? It seems like either there is a slow draw on the battery or else it's not charging at all. Why the 14.4 when it's running??

Check the trunk light by going through the back seat when the trunk is closed. I had this happen on mine and replaced the battery but then the same thing happend again, so I thought it was the alternator but was at about 14 volts when on. So, I did what I just said and found the trunk light was not turning off, just un pluged it and fixed the problem.
