running without a hood could possibly help in certain situations, such as if your engine is running warmer than optimal
but most of the rest of the time, running without a hood doesn't do any good, and is probably illegal

it should be, just in case something blows under the hood, to keep parts inside or whatever
i always thought it would be cool to have a clear hood, with hood scoops or whatever and all being clear.
put some kick *** neon (lights) under it for shows or sitting in the local hangout spot.
