Nice job Jr. And thanks again for everyone's help to this point. I got the valve spring compressor from autozone, but I can't quite get it to fit on the intake valves. I got 7 of the exhaust valves out last nite, but between the angle of the head and springs and the spark plug tubes, I couldn't get the compressor in there on the spring. Is there a better spring compressor I can borrow/buy? Or some other trick?

Also, when you say you recommend a rebuild, what exactly do you mean? New pistons, rods, pins, crank, cam, valve components, etc.? I just mean what parts exactly and where would be a good place to buy from? Thanks again. I am really trying to do this for her as cheap as possibly, but I don't want to waste the money and time spent on it just to throw a rod, or also for something in the tranny to bust, etc. Thanks again!!!

^^^You can remove the spark plug tubes.

Here is a rebuild kit online for about $400...

heres the way i got mine out................ take some vice grips and grab the top of the tube............ not around the circumfrance of it but like ur pinching it, and then tap it back and fourth and side to side with a hammerwhile pulling up with the vice grips.

Thanks a lot. I got the tubes pulled out, and all the valves out and cleaned. Now, I still can't get the cam gear off, so I was wondering about cleaning the head with the cam still on there? Will cleaning it with some carb cleaner or something ruin any of the camshaft bearings? I don't know for sure what type they are, although I would guess they're a metal "sleeve." Thanks again!!!

i use an impact to get the cam bolt off, the bearings are aluminum and no none of those chemicals will hurt ur head. but there no going to get cleaned very well unless u hot tank or bead blast it.
