Here is what happen to me and my friend. We both did a oil change in our car, my Neon and his 4-Runner. We brough Quaker State The "Q" oil and put it in our car. Two weeks later I check the oil and I am 1/2 quart low, so I fill it up and another 2 weeks, another 1/2 quart is gone and I have cardboard in the gargage and I only saw a few drop. Anyway I took it to my mech. and he said my head gasket was leaking. OK, sound normal for a Neon with 106,000 and the original head gasket. So I keep filling it up every two weeks. Two weeks ago, we change the oil again and my friend's 4-Runner have only 1 quart of oil left. He said he did not see a leak that bad happening. We change the oil, put Gastro in this time and guess what, two weeks later, both car is still FULL of oil. I wonder what happen with the Quarker State oil and the only reason I buy it is becasue it was on sale for $12 a case. I am wondering did anyone have similar experience and if you want to keep your engine, try to stay away from Quarker State.

Wow - I thought Q fixed all of those issues
I remember in the 80's using Q and it would leave sludge in the bottom of the oil pan - My Dad suggested Q when I started driving - I ended up rebuilding my car after 2 years of hard driving ( I was a teenager at the time) and there would be a nasty sludge film in every little crevious and crack that Oil could drip down into. After that I stopped using Q and went to Castrol ( and yes Castrol does not own a single Oil refinery - but they do have 3rd party refine the oil toCastrol quality standards). and had much better luck.
only had one car that burned oil - but only when it was due - My Old 260Z at 2900 miles would start burning oil - You must change it before 3000 or else!! I was driving a long distance tripand was at the 2900 mark with 800 milestill I would get home- I went through a case of oil on the way home for that last 800 miles. You would think that after adding 12 Qts of oil would last another 3000 miles - but it insisted that I change the Oil and filter to be good for another 2900 miles!
Now adays I run Red Line Syntethic - More expensive - but worth it - Engine last longer and get better gas mileage! And I do believe my engine runs alot cooler!
The Better gas mileage will not make up for the extra money spent on Synthetic!

I use the quaker state advanced engine full synthetic oil in my Z24, and It actually runs better that any oil I've used. I always use Mobil 1 or Quaker state in my z24, Ive always used full synthetic. My neon I ran valvoline max life, and it did okay. The reason I didn't use synthetic in it is because they say your not suppose to switch over 100,000 miles cause it could start leaking by eating up seals. Maybe thats what hapened in your car?
