tapping/slapping noise
i recently bought a '97 2.0dohc neon highline.. but it has an issue.. when the engine is running, it makes a tapping sound.. pretty close to the level of someone clapping their hands (so not too loud). my dad thinks its the lash adjusters, but we took each one out and 'tested' them as the manual said.. although it didnt specify how-to exactly, (we just squeezed them to see if oil would come out) and all seemed in shape. we checked the timing, and pumps, theyre all in shape and correct.. we think the noise is at the top of the engine, we did a compression test, each cylinder passed, and all rocker arms are in what seems to be good shape. so any ideas? i appreciate any and all help =]
if its not very loud its probly the normal piston slap noise.
nothing to worry about if thats what your hearing unless its hammerin like this one.
