Its held up by the bolts with the straps and the filler neck you can take the fuel pump out without droping the tank but gas will go everywhere.I never droped my take to remove the pump but then agian most of my neons have been 95's with the drain on the fuel pump. But we took my bros srt4 pump out without droping the tank we just put a big catch pan under the tank by the fuel pump also wear safety glasses before pull the pump out of the tank that gas goes every where.Thats something i learned first hand and it stings bad if you get it in your eyes.

Ok i went igut my my book if its a 96 or newer thedrain is on gas tank by the filler neck. If its a 95 its on the fuel pump. To remove the fuel pump assembly on a 96 or newer turn the locknut counterclockwise to remove it.If its a 95 use a flat screw driver and hammer and tap the metal lock ring in a counterclockwise direction. If its a 96 or newer when putting it back together do not over tighten that plactic locknut or it could start leaking agian.

No 96 will have a plastic lock ring and it will only go in a certian way you have to guidepump in and out.
