Default New Timing Belt Gave me extreme low End *****!!!

After replacing the water pump and timing chain and finishing up atMidnight7 hours ago I decided to take my car for a run and I couldnt be more Happy!

Long Story Short, I haveaquired aStrong Tire Burning Low End Power that never existed before the brand new timing belt! This thing roachesthe 195's like nothing now! I'm actually looking forward to racing off theline now!. The low endpower feels alot like my brothers old 2.5 tubo Acclaim and that says alot! That Acclaim ate Saturn SC-2 DOHC carsall day long and it weighed 4,000lbs!

When Igot the old belt offI inspected it and compared it to the new belt and the oldbelt had stretched to over an inch wider than the new belt! Also there was a tear in the belta half inch wide and the side was chewed up from slack in the water pump bearing. Now that there is no slack in the timing this thing is responsive asfk!

I knew when I torched a Riced outToyota at the stop lights that the timing belt made a world of difference for my power curve.

1/4 pedalgets thetires churpingand half pedal lights em up the rest of the way. Itsalso got so much more torque up hills and on the highway.

Very pleased with the new belt and water pump fix!

Sorry to open this thread to gloat but I'm so happy the SOHC has ***** off the line thatI can hardly contain myself!.

Its not too bad, its about $40 for the Water Pump and $40 for the Belt at AutoZone plus whatever for the AniFreeze of your choice

It free's up power you allready should have but lost and you wont overheat : ) So the Water Pump and new timing belt are 120% improvment and totally worth the price and piece of mind you get from knowing you wont overheat or bend a valve : )

126,000 Miles on the original Chrysler Equiped belt It had a half inch tear in it and and inch long quarter inch wide gouge out of the other end of it, I was also thinking with how bad my water pump bearing was moving that could have added to thelow endlag as well as the belt being a half inch more stretched than my new belt.

The quote on your avitar is from the movie Red Dawn

Out of curiosity, what kind of belt did you replace it with? I like the Goodyear Gatorback belts, they tend to last awhile and seem pretty tough for only 30 bucks.

LOL an hour?

If you've done it before and have the tools to do it I'd say 2 hours to be safe and ad up time for odds and ends. When I did mine everything that could go wrong went wrong and I expect no different with anybody else who tries it. Hardest part of the job was holding the cam sprocket still while taking the bolt out of it, and motor mount is time consuming with a ****ty jack under the engine but not too bad. I'd say you would want to make sure your water pump surface is very clean and use a wire brush and a blade to smooth the mating surface to you have no leaks.

Putting it together takes less than 30minutes once timing belt is on.

My belt was Auto Zones cheapest belt the Duralast $40 Belt. Checkers had the Good Year belt for $29but they wouldn't honor their online price and instead tried to charge me $45 so I went to Auto Zone instead, Checkers is good for raping people.

i can do it in an hour. that only if evrything comes apart easy and nothing goes wrong & you know them cars inside and out. i wonder if you motor wasnt out of time before, usually you wont gain THAT much from just new belt & pump.
