I plan on building a neon in the future for drag racing.I would like to know what is the best.
What year or doesnt it matter,what body style,which motor etc.
I plan on making it on all motor,no turbo,no nos.Just on the motor.
All your guys help will be greatly appreciated.

 

i say, 1st gen, mtx, srt-4 swapped. killin em.

 

Its easier to install a turbo on a SOHC or DOHC and make the power the SRT-4 makes than to spend lots of money on an SRT-4 Engine and then mod and swap.

 

im partial to the SOHC 5 speed 1st gen neons(i had a sohc 5 speed 4 door 95)97-99 would be the best just due to them all using common computers the 95'2 are unique in a few ways 96's have a little bit of everything and in my opinion the SOHC engines are easily twice as reliable as the DOHC just from what i have personally seen a few friends had DOHC neons and had nothing but problems!!

 

i would go with a 98-99 5-speed dohc...but thats just me...
start with an r/t....

 

No way you can not just stick on a turbo and match the power of the srt 4 the 2.0 will not hold up.

 

when i was running the srt4 turbo on my stock motor at 8psi i was able to eat stage 1 srt4's all day long....

but everyone needs to note this,
the guy said NO turbo and NO nitrous

 

I understand that spud and I don't dought it one bit. But did you just slap on a turbo and do that.

 

Yes, he did. I would personally go with a 97-99 sohc mtx. Im not positive, but arent top end parts somewhat cheaper than the dohc top end parts?

 

So I was thinking of a 2 door,Sohc,Mtx,and do the motor up.Sound good?
