Default dohc ecu vs. sohc ecu

i just read that you can take the ecu out of a dohc and put it in a sohc and it will give you more horsepower...give me your opion on this cuz im gonna have computer work done...now im wondering if i should get the dohc ecu or jsutplay it safe and get the sohc ecu...im thinkin about doin this to my dirt track neon..do you think it would benifit me...as far as mods go ..it has a cold air intake...venom injectors..dynamax short piperacing exhaust..msd ignition pack...8mm msd wires...its bored 30over with a triple grind valve job. ported and polished..comp cam..and a jet chip...heres the write up>>>>

Tuned ECUOur next mod was a Mopar Performance ECU. CNNP's Nemo Foss suggest we use the ECU from the more potent DOHC engine because it had more spark advance and gave a richer mixture on the top end than the Mopar Performance SOHC ECU. Foss says the richer mixture might hurt high-rpm power at our present level, but it might help us later as we get more into the engine. This is because the speed density Neon ECU does not compensate enough for the airflow changes our mods will create.
The Mopar Performance ECU performs quite well. In fact, it's giving us greater gains than any single mod to this point, a whopping 6.1 hp at 4300 rpm and a big gain in peak torque, upping the total to 122 lb-ft at 4300 rpm. Just as Foss predicted, we did lose some power past the power peak, the most being 6.4 hp at 6600 rpm. The power loss isn't significant because the car won't be revved this high in its current state of tune.
Other benefits? Throttle response is snappier and the car is more eager to rev. Although we didn't gain a single peak hp, we gained considerable power under the curve.

Default RE: dohc ecu vs. sohc ecu

I am running a DOHC pcm right now, pretty much it works best with mods that work to the advantage of this pcm. My Throttle Body spacer has helped atomise the extra fuel that the DOHC pcm is delivering. I would suggest using this pcm if you are using a Turbo but for Normally Aspirated engines you pretty much need a throttlebody spacer or some sort of intake work to make it worth the $80 at the junk yard. My Gtech has confirmed more power since the DOHC pcm has been installed over my previous baselines at anaverage of 5hp gain says the Gtech, in mostly the mid to high range. The DOHC pcm is mostly set for the DOHC Engines high RPM powerband, in contrast the SOHCmakes more torque at lower Rpm ranges which is why intake manifold mods increase the effectivness of the DOHC pcm swap.

Hope this was somewhat helpfull!

im not allowed to run a turbo or i would...if i ran a larger throttle body and maybe even that spacer would i be able to rum the DOHC pcm with naturally aspirated motor...if im gonna do this im goin to get the mopar performance pcm not one frm the junkyard.... also would this make my acceleration slower? thanx alot

first of all the dohc pcm they use is the mopar dohcpcm it's just the dohc one for even more power on the sohc.....you can do it but i would just get themoparsohc pcm

It adds air velocity past the Throttle bodysbutterfly valve thus atomizing fuel better which Ad's power. My home brew tb spacer yielded consistantgains of 5hp over previous baselines I've recorded, again the power is mostly high end which is why it works so well with the DOHC PCM.

With the mods that i have do you think that i would benifit from goin with a DOHC ecu....i need to find a way to make my fuel richer because the last race of the season was on a 1/4 mile track where your runnin some serious rpms and the manifold was cherry hot...i couldnt have heated it up with a torch that hot...so im obviously runnin lean ....i kno lean is mean but i dont wanna have a meltdown mid-season...im also thinkin about taking off the intake and making the ports bigger...i cant run and aftermarket intake cuz the engine must appear to be stock..would that work.
