a real short throw shifter is when the ball on the bottom end of the shifter is moved down closer to the end of the shifter shaft. my buddy knows how to make them and could prolly make u one if your interested. he makes them for all of his daytonas and spirits

the whole principle of a short throw shifter is to have less movement for your arm...but in less arm movement you also have less shifter movement
i do have less arm movement of the armwhich does help...now what do you mean by less shifter movement? it still goes in and out of gear just like i always did theres no difference. the only difference is that its a little harder to move due to lack of leverage. so basically doing what i did is exactly the same as grabbing the stock shifter down closer to the boot and shifting. less arm movement which decreases shift times but harder to pull in and out of gear. im assuming a real short throw shifter accomplishes the task of minimal arm movement while still maintaing high leverage therefore being easier to move in and out of gear. same amount of linkage movement either way you do it...........thats my way of looking at it.

All you did was make the shifter shorter.

i never like the idea of cutting the shifter shorter to be honest. my friend did it in his stang and it did absolutely nothing except make the shift **** constantly fall off and make it harder to reach with no actual improvement..and with the neon having the shifter coming out from almost the floor, it makes it even harder to reach just my $.02

on a real short throw shifter, the bottom of the handle is bent just a bit and is a little longer....the closer the bottom of the handle is to the cables, the less length that it has to move
check out the link DAS posted.....look at the length of the bottom of the shifter

yea i saw it. the fulcrum (which would be the pivot point) is basically moved up on a real short throw shifter. your arm really does move less with mine being that my hand is now closer to the pivot point. below the pivot point still moves equal distance and my throw is less.

its obvious and really quite simple to understand. there is no difference. i have accomplished the task of having less arm movement which is the whole point of a short throw shifter. so theres no arguement i have done what any$200 short shifter would do.
