a lot of people seem to fear painting things as if they cant be corrected if a problem occurs... just have fun with it and try not to rush things... when i painted mine i started roughing the worst spots on the car with a fine 320 grit and went to a fine 400 then grey scotchbrite before primer. also after your primer coat, try to make the surface as smooth as u possibly can with 2000 grit. that will get the best results from your actual paint. good luck!

thinkin about doin that to my car too. start by really washing the car down. remove all emblems and possibly head and tail lights if you want to do a good job.then get 400 grit wetsand sandpaper and sand it while its wet. sand the whole car really good until the surface it roughed up including engine compartment, door jams and trunk. but dont go down to the metal. then spray it down with a hoseand wait until it drys. then tape everything off and tape newspaper all over your windows, and tiresto stop overspray.then spray a coat of primer or two. wait until that COMPLETLY dries then spray several coats of your paint. remove all tape and newspapers.after paint is completely dry then wax your car with a good wax on wax off type stuff to seal and protect your paint. then put your head and tailights and emblems back on.

true with enamel paints, which also run very easily ... i would recommend a laquer for a DIY project... dries quick, easy to spray, and you can get it in a million colors
