My battery light will once and awhile, and more commonly now, come on every time I start the car. It will kind of jerk once in awhile when Im in 5th going down the highway.

What I've noticed, is that there is so much frequency when I rev the car above 1000 rpms, The radio no longer works and is just static. If I shut the engine off, but leave the radio on, the static is gone, even still going 100km/h.

I check the battery while running, little over 14 volts, battery is brand new last week, this all started actually after I put the battery in, and Im not sure if it could be related. Dumb thought, maybe.

If you have some insight on the problem, I would apprcieate some help, thank you.

 

Make sure the cables are tight and do not move on the battery

 

try cleaning your connections also.

 

batterylight will come on when engine turns off so it could also be a loose ground or connection at the alternator.

 

I cleaned the connections really well, still the same, I will look at the alternator connections next. Thank you.

 

Update.

It fells like the alt. is working sometimes, sometimes not, from the dim in the lights then goes bright.

I hooked my multi-meter up to a wire I ran to the battery, grounded the other in the car.
Read 12.50 volts off, 12.3-4 running, and after I went for a 5 min drive, the voltage never increased.

I check the connections off the alternator, they looked good.

you should be runing 13 to 14 while the car and alt. is charging. I think with my optima it was sitting at 13.43v when i thought my alt was going out.

 

Tore apart the alternator, looked ok, brushes were a little worn.

Cleaned them, "stretched" them out a tad then put it back together and is working good now.

Will be getting a rebuild kit this week, thanks all for your help!
