Default POWER STEERING,, Overated?

so how hard is it to steer without power steering becuz as most know im planning on doing the 2.4 swap and i figure if i dump the power steering then thats one less thing to worry about and have heard that it frees up some hp.. also with the Ac but im moving to Oklahoma and really want to have and ac when im down there

when doing the 2.4 swap the engine sould come with all the Vaccume Lines and if not do i use the 2.0 lines or the 2.4 and were do i get them cuz the ones on my neon are shot

With a power steering rack, and the lines disconnected (looped) it can be a chore. With a true manual steering rack, it feels the same as power steering in my opinion. I am doing the same thing at the moment, as I found a manual rack at the yard finally. Iget get the correct rack. Without p/s or a/c, there is almost too much room in the engine bay.

so i have to get something to replace the power steering i figured you would just take out the powe steering and then you go... but i have to get a steering rack.. which i dont know what that is

so is it easyer to just hook up the power steering... then the steering rack...

so when im searching for this part at a junk yard what do i call it?? so they dont look at me like im an idiot

You do not "have to get the proper rack, but I certainly recommend it. You can also d a search here www.car-part.com for a manual steering rack for a 95-99 neon. Local parts store may have a listing too. I am trading a pcm for another manual steering rack. Something I have come to realize is that power steering fluid is flamable , and dangerous if it leaks . Removing all that hardware really frees up work space too.

if you dont wanna get a new rack then just locate the 2 main power steering lines that run into the rack....cut the steel lines about 3 inches from the rack....then just run a rubber hose from one line to the other......this ishow you"loop" the power steering lines when remove the p.s. pump..
if you just remove the pump and the lines then you will end up ruining the steering rack

You loop the lines to keep dbris from getting into the lines and possibly causing issues. Have heard of some racks failing with lines disconnected, but I drove for two years that way so who knows. Loop the lines or replace the entire rack.

there will still be some fluid in the rack....everything with moving parts needs some form of lubrication

well weird coincidence (dont know how to spell taht)

well today i was parked in my Cutlass getting warm and i was hearing weird noises so i shut it off cuz i figured it was getting to hot but then i started it up and took off and my power steering went out, or is it out of fluid and its really not that hard to steer

One of the first things I did to my neon was take the power steering out and loop the lines.Power steering just makes me oversteer.Dont think I would do it to a every day driver.
