ACR v.s. New style
Ive read alot of different places that said the older style neon, the acr I believe it was called, was pretty fast stock. Would the older ACR transmission bolt to the new engine blocks? I think both of them were 2.0 but I was just wondering. Thanks jay, and somebody offered to resize my pics for me but I forgot who it was (sorry) but whoever it was just let me know bc I have them stored to a file now.
I also want an aftermarket tach. One with a shift light on it and I was wondering what some of you suggest. I need an idea on where to mount it without drilling holes or using a sticky adhessive that wont come off. I also need a web sight that sales neon piller pods bc I dont have an oil pressure gauge or a bat metter.

I did a quick check and couldn't find out for sure if the trannys will swap. The early trans will defineately bolt to the later engine but I'm not 100% positive if it will mount to the car itself. While the gear gear ratios were significantly different the main reason the ACR and other gen1's were faster than gen2's was that they were lighter. The transmission you refer to was used in DOHC ACR's as well as some gen1 R/T's. However all DOHC cars used a 3.94 final drive ratio compared to your 3.55s. Check out this chart for all the ratios http://www.neons.org/forumdodge/trans.htm I have the 3.94/0.72 and you might find that would be a better choice as the 3.94/0.81 will run over 3,000rpm at 60mph (I run 2500 at 60)
As someone who is currently on his sixth day of a seven day license suspension for speeding I gotta say every once in a while you gotta just kick back and take it easy. But seriously it is pretty rare for me to do 60 in 5th. If I'm really standin' on it 2-3 doesn't come till over 70. DOHC all the way!
I was talking about cruising. When I've got it mashed I'll pull 60 in 2nd and run 120 into 5th. I do still have my original tranny- though I want something faster. Any tips? Maybe a different tranny?

I have the standard 96-99 DOHC mtx(3.94 final/0.72 5th). Assuming gen2 SOHC engines have the same rev limiter as the gen1s(6250rpm) the extra 5mph probably has to do with the DOHC's 7200rpm limit. I'll be honest though and say I'm not absolutely positive about the speed as I'm generally paying more attention to the tach than the speedo to avoid actually hitting the limiter. Also I'm making rough conversions from km/h and 115-120km/h comes to mind. I know it's over 110 cause I've pointed out many times that I can break the speed limit on any road we have without leaving second gear.
My rev limiter is at 6750 rpm. You got an aftermarket PCM? I don't think stock they are that high are they? I know the 2nd gen R/T that has the 3.94 tranny in it has a rev limiter at right about the same spot as mine. Oh well I guess it could be...I don't know as much about 1st gen neons.
