Turbo help again...
Well today wasnt so great. I was getting up on it a little and towards 4k i heard the blow off valve go off. So I quickly hit the clutch in and coasted worried that something was wrong. Now when i drive it i can hear the turbo spool up but i am only getting less then .5psi. Somtimes 1. I went over all the piping and boots. Everything is fine. I just dont know? And to top it off i hear a timing belt click or slap. Anyway it could be a bad intercooler or blow off valve. This sucks i am about to pull the turbo out and sell it and start the 2.4 build and try the srt turbo.
Well see its been running fine for over a week with problems. I ask alot of the questions just to make sure. Remember measure once cut twice. haha. That was a joke so please dont correct me. Ba i read over 200 forum pages before starting the tubo project. I have done alot with neons. My first and only car is the neon. This is my first turbo project. I have never even seen a turbo on a car. I think i am doing good for the my first turbo project with the only person helping me drained my teanny fluid when i told him to drain the oil. And another reason i have some many posts is because i drive over and hour just to get to my garage. Thats why i get my facts all straight before i waste $20 in gas a day. After going to over for a bit i have decided its a boost leak somewhere. I bet it will be something stupid like a split boot. Could it be possible to be the intercooler? Its the only thing i got used.
I took off my bumper went over evything. Even got some new clamps and fixed some ones that didnt look perfect. I have messed with alot of boosts leaks last week when the piping always shot off. I am familiar with it. Its an ebay blow off valve. It has worked great. It seems to be still blowing off that little psi of boost i get. Could that be the problem? Its just dumping the air. I got good connection to it. I went over it for about 2 hours. I test drove it like 15 times. I even replaced vaccum lines. I hope i didnt hurt anything? How can i pressure check it? SHould i unhook it from the TB annd run smoke though it? Will that cause damage? I got block off the piping before the tb. The smkoke will come out the leaks right?
Second thought. I still havent tightened down the egr pipe to the intake manifold. I havent had any problems with it leaking. Besides shouldent the intake hold that pipe there?
intake hold the pipe there? Just tighten to bolts man. Dont run smoke through ur freakin piping to check for a leak! Rig up a piece that can go into your piping somewhere with a tire valve glued in it so you can pressureize your system with a tire pump and listen or spray soapy water to check for leaks......

I am getting the egr block off. The pipe, bolts, and gasket are complete junk. The pipe stays in there. When i pull it away my idle just goes up like crazy. But i never have problems with the idle. But i will try the soapy water tomarrow. Good call i forgot about that. Works good when i was a kid to check for leaks on my bikes tires. Haha. Thanks. What about the bov? Just check for leaks again then get a new one?
BOV may have a weak spring. Only spray soapy water on it if the car isnt running. Also, just because your egr dosent change your IDLE, dosent mean you wont get a leak there. Remember. at idle your at vacume and the engine will "suck" that shut. When shes in boost it could blow the bad gasketed loosely bolted egr blockoff open.
What type of hose clamps you use? Cheapo "worm screw" type?
I highly reccomend only using T-Bolt type clamps, they are the best.....

I used a few cheapo ones but the resy r the bolt T ones. I doubled up on the cheapo ones. I used pvc for 2/5 of it. It sounded like the blowoff valve let the pressure out when i was building boost before it got messed up. It says it good up to 32 psi. I am only running eight. It has like 100 miles on it. You think the spring went out just from that?
