Default Motor mount question

I was looking at my motor mounts and saw that they were pretty shot. I am gonna buy the prothanes inserts from modern, but they are only inserts. Should I get new mounts and then get the inserts or will I be ok just getting the inserts?

I don't really know the answer, but I would think that you would actually need new motor mounts in addition to inserts since the inserts basically just keep the stock ones from twisting. If yours are shot then the inserts probably won't do a lot. Like I said, I don't know for sure, but it would seem to make sense that with messed up stock mounts the inserts won't be very effective.

You really should replace the mounts as well. I'd go for the solid steel front one. Also while your changing them, get a stiffer bobble strut or solid one. Both can be got from:
www.howellautomotive.com
and this is the direct link right to the motor mounts:

I'd just get solid mounts if the mounts themselves are shot. You'd end up replacing the mounts in the long run anyhow. And RT_Driver's right, Howell is the place to be.

I don't know about Neons, but for the SRT Dogbones rule.

1st gen Neons don't have dogbones lucky. My brother has snapped his in his Subaru five times. And three of them were heavyduty aftermarket ones.

ok, correct me if I am wrong. As far as I can see all my mounts are bad or close to it. If I get the solid front mount and the solid bobble, I still need to get a new stock transmission and side engine mount and also the prothane inserts? Looking at the howell link all I see is inserts for those 2. Or would my stock half shot ones be ok with just the inserts?

No, the rear bobble strut is the transmission mount. There isn't any company that makes aftermarket side motor mounts, just inserts. So you do have to use stock ones for the sides. The side mounts have a much smaller chance of breaking when you have solid front and rear, but the inserts can be put in almost eliminate breakage. Just be ready when you start driving with solid mounts, you'll be enjoying a back massage every time you stop.

Same with the SRTs the engine vibration at idle and in 1st gear is horrible, but you get used to it. With inserts not so much.
