Default Compression Problems

Got a 95 neon w/ a remanufactured motor...went to start it up and can't get any compression...sometimes I might get as much as 150psi...but most the time it's beween 30 and 60 psi...any easy solutions, or am i gonna have to take the head in to have the valve seats reground.

welcome to the forum!

assuming you did a direct compression test. Makeing sure the engine is warmed up is important to getting a good test. within 15% of 190 is good.

Doing a differential compression test can help you find where the leak is without removing the head.

Can't warm up the car to do a compression check...the engine has never been started up b4. I'm trying to get it to fire off for the first time...When I do get compression, it holds the compression and doesn't bleed off the pressure.

well maybe the gaps in the compression rings lines up for a minute and that gave you the loss. Personally i perfer to do differential compression checksbeacuse its some much easyer to fin the leaks.

is it just one cylinder or more?

I agree with 12 volt, I would also put little ATF in each cylinder and start. This may help the compression ring to seat.

I ain't used ATF...I've tried a lil bit of motor oil...that does help a lot...but still no start...I am shootin 3-4 foot flames out the exhaust every now and then too.

afterfire occures when you have unburnt fuel in your exhust system or an exhaust leak. i would testing fuel pressure, then spark
