Throttle body switched from factory?
Just wondering how possible it was to have a MTX neon with the 52mm throttle body installed from the factory. I bought a 96 SOHC MTX and the first thing i went to do was switch to the throttle body off of a ATX car, well while at the junk yard i measured the one they tried to sell me and compared it to the one that was on my MTX, they were exactly the same size. I used dial calipers and found my convictions right, its a 52mm TB. It has the MTX spring and cable cam, but its the larger size body, even the throttle plate has the exact same number stamped on it as my ATX throttle body.
Seeing this, im just wondering the possibility of it coming like this from the factory. The guy i bought the car from has the mechanical skills of a monster engery supercross girl, and every single part on the car when i got it was stock, he never even changed the oil in it himself and its a one owner car.

atx and mtx are the same at the top. But the mtx narrows in at the butterfly.(i am allmost positive) If you looked down into each one you would notice the difference. You will also notice the tension difference of the spring.

the first place i measured was the bottom of the tb, where it meets the manifold, the measurements were within a couple thousanths, next i pulled the butterfly valves out and they were exactly the same size, and next i measured that tapered down part, measurements are as follows,
Bottom of tb 52mm
Butterfly 52mm
Tapered section about 46mm
Bottom of tb 52mm
Butterfly 52mm
Tapered section about 46mm
i know when i got my atx tb i thought i was sent a mtx cuz there exactly the same but then i noticed were it was like a funnel and the atx is straight down
i was wondering about that but i measured both the tbs, and the measurements at every part of the throat was exactly the same, and the exit of the throttle body on both was 52mm, i even pulled the butterfly valves and the are exactly the same. I figure at this point im going to send it to RC Engineering and have them bore it, and make a custom intake out of extruded alum. i was just wondering it it had every come up before
why spend tons to have them make a "custom" one when you can just buy one??? http://www.modernperformance.com/pro...69ae35860173c0

i looked at that one but im trying to build a car for a class that must be able to be driven on the street, and since i live in cali, smogs hell. in order to use the potential of something that big, id have to do more work then is legal here, where as the RC eng.mods will work decent with what i can legally modify. Remember, in california i cant even put an upgraded pcm, not even the mopar one. besides, the price diff isnt that big, 30 bucks, and ive seen a dyno chart on the rc eng. mod'd tb, i havent seen one for the mpx unit
when this engine blows, maybe 2 and a half years, ill be building it up for race only, and then it will get the hahn racecraft turbo, along with forged internals and everything else, including the 60mm tb
