My neon died
Hey everyone,
My name is Chris and im new to the neon forum i also have a an avenger so im subscribed to it as well.. Ok heres the delima i Bought this 96 sohc neon w/' 60.000 miles on it was working fine until i ran through a puddle about oh i say 5 hrs ago. Well it died in the puddle, pushed it out and it wouldnt start. Its a stick so i tried push starting it. Didnt work, when i put it in gear it acted like the tranny was froze up the wheels whould jus slide. got it home checked the fuses and the wiring and the starter. well they all seem to work. so when i try to turn it over now all i get is a click the motor doesnt even turn over... do think jus driving through a puddle locked up the motor? Any ideas? appreciate it!

if you just get the starter clicking the porblem could be the battery. if the batt is new check the connections at the top and make sure they are clean.
does the car have a Cold air intake?

yeah ive tried 3 batteries each one bigger than the last . no it has the orginal box intake that cam w/ it i guess. it sits at the fire wall. i failed to mention that when i hit the "GIANT " puddle water may have gotten everything wet. dont kno if that would cause it not to start to|?
definitely not hydraulic lock. i dont see how water could get that high, unless your driving thru a lake.
what does that mean? it souldnt matter how big the batt is.
im almost positive that your not getting 12 volts to the starter

as for your problem. first thing a would do is try and pull some fault codes form the PCM. If that gets you nowhere trouble shoot the starter system first and just try and get the engine to trun
how the starter system works (just in case poeple dont know)

ok ive spent the last 2 hrs tracing the ingnition and everything works with the starter out of the tranny. iu put it back in and all i get is clicking again.. i tried to move the flywheel by hand an it wont budge? i jacked it up off the ground so the wheels move freely./ the wheels turned but the flywheel didnt. i put in 1 an 2 and tried it and still nothing ?? could it be the throw out bearing? before i pull the tran?
if you put the tranny in gear and the wheels wont turn, then you locked up the motor by getting water into the cyls. the clicking noise is from the starter not being able to turn the motor cause water wont compress in the cyls. all you have to do is remove all the spark plugs and it should just crank real easy as the water gets pushed out of the cyls. then you can decide if you damaged anything internaly. it depends on how many RPM's you were turning when you hit the water. hopefully you didnt bust a connecting rod. how big was this so called puddle anyway?
