I Will Let The Dyno Decide Till Then Im Gonna Be Lovin It No Matter what
Harley Rider68 you made some good points but then you said "sell the Neon". I don't believe in that mindset, theres 11 second Neons and 8 seconds Neons, Money is ultimately whats going to hold him back.
People tend to forget 350,307,305 Small block Cameros from 1968-the advent of the LS-1 Motor or Vorteconly did 16 and 15 second quarter miles but people build them up to be fast and don't give up. a 1968 289ci Mustang does an 18 second quarter mile, most of the ford Muscle Cars did around 14-15 second quarter miles and the slower ones did 18.

and solid prothane mounts
and removing ac and ps
like i said ill get it dynoed hopefully this summer

they way people are about their neons is crazy.....i love my neon to death....but if the right situation came around, i would sell the car in a heart beat....wouldnt even have to think about it....
i just wanna go pick up my 68 valiant so i can start putting it together....screw modding these neons....
not the crank scraper josh the balance shafts...crank scrapers help... not hp wise... for cars that are going to see track time going around very long corners so the oil pump doesent suck up air...
hes talking about the 2.4 balance shafts... 2.0's dont have them... the 2.4 crank is not balanced from the factory like the 2.0's cranks... they rely on a very odd balance shaft system that is like a little dampener mounted with a chain around the balance shaft box then the crank to keep internal vibrations down. However after removing them you will notice a slight vibration its not enuf to trigger your knock sensor and your pcm pull timing... runs on the same principal as removing your ac or ps you would be losing parasitic (sp) drag...

Ok Let me elaborate on Balancing Shafts.
Balancing Shafts are connected via chain or gear drive depending on the manufacturer. They spin 2x the speed of the engine but in the opposite direction on some motors that use them like GM's Quad 4 they run the oil pump so I wouldn't advise getting rid of them. Although I'm not sure if that is the case for Mopars if the Balancing Shafts run the oil pump, but on GM's Quad 4 they run it so research first.
Some ofChrysers 2.2's used balancing shafts and I just happen to have one from a 2.2 Daytona I parted out last year. As everyone knows the 2.2 and Neon2.0 Blockshare alot of similarity's so I wonder if you could equip the 2.0 with balancing shafts for smoother idle. My sister's Quad 4 Grand AMthat has balancing shafts runs so quiet and smooththat several times I've been in the car and she's tried to start it while its running.

When I get into my Neon I know it was crafted with Pride and built to last, or at least the beatings I've given it and mileage point to that asumption.

Your right, it's all a matter of money. It's nice to see a group so passionate about a vehicle that was originally marketed as a rather mundane commuter vehicle. Being embraced by many race organizations certianly helped in it's popularity. I had a 1965 Mustang with a factory 289 HIPO, that I built to 350 ish HP. It ran 14's when I was drag racing it in high school. The problem was, it really lost driveability. The engine overheated, the trans overheated, the steering geometry was terrible, and the brakes only worked when they felt like it. But I loved driving it and I wish I never sold it (for a Yamaha RZ500.) So do the mods, and put it on a dyno and go from there.
