RE: Ehtanol laced gas
moth ***** and acetone don't work, laquer thinner may work xylene I heard work but no proof If you seach for home made octane booster there are many recipies on the web but never tried them I tried the acetone but I never noticed any increase in milage I tried in varing amount as it was free from the place I used to work at, I did see a segment on mythbusters about it and it actually got worse MPG by a half a mile

I've heard using mothballs (naptha) increases octane, but unless your engine is built to use higher octane, it won't make any difference. In another post, Acetone was stated as having a 150 octane rating. Unless some kind of magic occurs, it would take 2.3 gallons of acetone to 8 gallons of 87 octane regular gasoline to yeild 105 octane fuel. I don't know if VLMUKE used this much, but it sounds like a waste to me. On E85, once there are enough gas stations selling it, the auto companies will start making E85 only cars. If the engine is set up to run alcohol, it gets the same or better fuel economy - much like a diesel.

I agree with harleyrider if the engine is designedto run strickly e85 it will do better. no,the most I ever put in was about a couple of quarts I wasn't trying to use it as an octane booster I read that acetone breaks the surface tension of the gas and makes the fuel flow better and atomize in the injectors better allowing the the car to make more HP and increase milage according to the source I used I only needed to add 1/2 once per gallon as anymore was a waste but it didn't make any difference in performance or MPG
I also saw a special on gasoline and gas is gas what makes it premium or regular is the propietary additives they add right before delivery to the station and only 5% of gas companies have 100% dedicated pipeline the rest share the gas pipeline which means that when for example shell orders gas from the pipeline the gas that shell gets may or may not be shell gas as it takes several days to 30 days for the gas to actually reach its destination depending on where in the county the storage plsce is located and when they place the order they pull the gas out right away so the they pull out isn't the nessisarily thier gas but what will make it thier gas is the additive they add when they deliver the gas to the station
