So here's a new one that she never did.

After 30 minutes of bumper to bumper traffic in African conditions (heat/dust, etc...may or may not be relevant) the gas light came on (148 miles with 20 liters so everything normal here).

I put 20 more liters in and drive off, on the highway this time.
At around 90 km/h in 5th the engine start sputtering and losing power. I downshift in 4th and 3rd to no avail, still a major power loss. Then I get a backfire and power comes back.

I pull over, pull the fuel pump fuse and the + cable and wait 5 mn or so, then connect everything again and drive off.

Since then everything is back to normal.

What gives ? This freaks me out, imagine if that happens in two weeks when racing season starts. Ideas ?

sounds like the aircleaner was dirty and the backfire blew a hole in it.
