Default RE: project thread (new valve cover pics)

tax refund finally came. im ordering a semi-solid bobble strut and some motor mount inserts from modern, along with a magnaflow muffler and tips from ebay. 4" round and will be placed in the exhaust tunnel. send a pipe over the rear suspension to dual polished tips straight out the back on the drivers side.... maybe notch the rear bumper to make them flow better....

already ordered it by the time i read that... sry. stuff on its way. i got the muffler from a local shop for same price as ebay. shop gave me overnight shipping for free so ill have it tomorrow.i think most magnaflow dealers will do that.
still looking for the right tip though.... magnaflow tips -$80. so im just going to go with something different. hell the muffler was only $68

Default RE: project thread (blew the car up)

instead of making a custom tail pipe i just placed the resonator right after the rear tire. its hidden. you cant see it unless you get under the car. out to a single black chrome tip. the tip looks sleeper, but the car is mega loud. almost too loud. shoulda got a muffler. will post pics....

anyone want a stock dohc muffler?

Default RE: project thread (blew the car up)

i took the car 100 miles between 7 and 9 am this morning to another college. the thermostat went bad on the way. the car overheated pretty badly three times. it kept throwing the water out the overflow. i kept re-filling it.

i got it to the college and filled it with water yet again wondering wtf was going on - trying to find the "leak" i thought i had. then it hit me and I took the termostat out. it was stuck shut. i let the car cool off and filled it with water yet again.

drove it about 30 miles - stayed cool and operated well. then i started going uphill. it seemed to take more pedal that i thought it should

i downshifted to 4th, raised it to 3500rpm. the car backfired a litte and lost a little power. i knew something was wrong so i immediatly put it in neutral. therpms dropped all the way down and shut off on its own. i heard a weird noise from the engine compartment.

the car puked oil out of the breather outlet on the valve cover. near the back.

it turns over. sort of. the cam gears and accessory belts are moving. unplugged the coil pack to see if anything changed. it didnt. so i changed the plugs because i happened to have a set in the car. did nothing. I hear the starter spinning, but it does not feel like the crank is turning at all. even though the pulley is and its turning the cam gears and accessory belts....

even though the car blew up, heres what i had done to the exhaust last friday...

its a magnaflow resonator attached to factory 2.25" tubing going to a custom downpipe eliminating the catalytic converter. as free flowing as i could stand. out the side of the car would have been unbearable

Default RE: project thread (blew the car up)

just updating this - almost sold the car for $700

couldnt do it. hoping it was just a head gasket or rings i popped the head off the car to find a piston with a hole in the top.

.... now im having the block bored out .020", decked, and cleaned. i got a new pt clutch and switched over to a modular setup,

i gutted the entire interior and completely stopped the water from getting in. I cleaned all the carpeting with a hoover rug scrubber. the water went in the carpet clear and came out looking like coffee 3 or 4 times, till it started to clear up. did the seats too.

I just installed my maddog short throw shifter ten minutes ago with new booger bushings. i bought some srt-4 rims, egr blockoff, mopar bobble strut, and some random little thigns and should hopefully have the thing back together within 30 days from today! hopefully a lot sooner but im being conservative. Shi..... stuff happens
