Default MTx ECU in an ATx

Ok, so i'm looking to replace my busted but still working ecu. I have a 98 SOHC ATx and I can get a 99 MTx ECU for free... What, if any, problems might I encounter?

im pretty sure you can put a dohc pcm on a sohc car (according to sportcompactcar). ...but an mtx pcm on an atx.... the atx pcm has different sensors and tuning. as far as i know when ppl swap their cars to an mtx they have to get a pcm as well.

Well, I went ahead and did it. Since it was free an all... But so far so good, Been driving it all day and so far no light or any problems as of yet. I've been driving it pretty hard so i cant tell if it screwed up my gas mileage yet, as of now with the way i'm driving i'm getting like 20 or so. We'll just have to wait and see.

I am pretty sure the reason why you cant is because of the TC lockup, but I am not sure.

One full day of driving, everything seems to be fine. The car shifts as it did b4 the wreck, a little sloppy ( need to adjust the tranny ), gas mileage seems to be normal so far, I basically went through 2 whole tanks of gas today testing it. ( i like driving ) No lights or anything, other than another alternator belt that came off, ( whole other topic, soon to come )

So, if It ends up not messing anything up, that'll be a good thing for some people if they have access to a free ecu.

The MTX will not engage your lockup torque converter, so your tranny will end up overheating on you. Stop driving it with that PCM unless you install a tranny cooler or hook up a toggle switch to your torque converter.

Its part of the ATX. It basically helps the tranny from burning itself up. You will feel it engage when at freeway speeds in 3rd gear.
