its called a bumper bracket
it is just i think about 6 bolts, 2 top 4 underside
it weighs bout 35 40 lbs and can very easily be removed

but, as 12volt says
it is there to fold in an accidnent, so you dont
this will save ur life, so think twice b4 removing it

suppose you could remove it, however you would have to replace it with someting comparable to its strength. but finding something would be the hard part unless you know a good fabracator.
other than that i think it is illegal to remove since it is part of a safety measure

the oem bumper reinforcement piece weighs almost 3 times as much as most of the aftermarket ones... so instead of removing it totally at least take it off and go buy a replacement part. You will save some weight and still be protected far better than nothing. And besides it is what holds your front bumper in shape, without it it will sag and you'll probly end up driving over it one day on the freeway when it decides to finally let go.

oh by the way some insurance companys if you do get into a wreck will not cover you if the factory bumper (thats what its called the bumper... the plastic part the covers it is a bumper cover...) is missing they will drop your insurance plan...

lots of turbo guys and guys concerned about weight will just take a 3 inche hole drill and punch out a bunch of holes across the bumper

No, actually thats called your bumper. The plastic part you remove is your bumper cover or fascia.

Easy to remove...got a replacement one from a junkyard for about $10.
