Hi, I bought a Neon few months back its a 1996 2.0 16v SOHC auto.

My fans stopped working lastweek and i did a direct wire to the fans to test they were not at fault, they are fine, i was told by a dealer that the fan module would be the only reason this could happen and that this module was under the batt area front vender held on by two screws.

I have looked for 5 hours trying to find this thing, taken the batt out and the batt case but this fan module is not there, all i can find is a black box under the rad that has four wires coming from the two fans connected to it, and a two wire plug other end.

Anyone here know in detail where this fan module would be.

That relay is located on the front inner frame just behind the radiator. The right side of the car would be the passenger's side of the car. You are going to have to take the radiator out of the car to get to it.

And 1.6L I'm assuming its a European Neon?

 

I think he said 2.0l and typo'd the 16v part. it is a 16 valve engine, right?

Thanks for the reply's, ill have another go tomorrow, this time remove the radiator.

Would the dealer be right in saying that this is the only reason the fans will not turn on, apart from dead fan motor's.

 

Pretty much. I think you've got it licked you just needed to be pointed in the correct direction.

And, Lona, he was correct in saying 1.6L, some of the European Neond are actually a 1.6 liter and not a 2.0.

 

Ive just taken the rad out and this relay is not there, all i can find is this:





It has two screw holes it was under the rad area held on by these two screws, it has four wires coming from the two fans to the back of it and it then has a two socket plug front end.

Need help asap before i replace the rad.

The car is a 2.0L

 

Thats the relay. You might want to take that relay to the dealer and see if they have that one.

 

Thanks for the quick reply, ill go see the dealer tomorrow and ask why they sold me this relay and did not offer me another type, also i did go in to detail about that black box on my car and they dismissed it as the relay.

black box being the relay as i now know from your reply the 2nd pic i posted.

Bo problem. It almost looks like that relay you have in there is not the correct one and was jerry rigged into the car. I'm guessing the one they sold you is the correct one but the previous owner got one and made it work. Hopefully the dealer can help you out.
