New engine build n/a

the magnum head would be a much better choice for the sohc then a stock head...
i just prefer dohc's because there is more power at the top end...but then again, i have never ridden in a sohc with dohc pistons

There are people with sohc engines that run 7600 Rpm with the right cam and intake, thats very much near the maxpoint anybody would push either of these motors seeing they have the same bottum end.
I've always said both these engines are good and either engine is only limited by what the owners imagination and budget is. To quote a saying from Jeremy "its ricer Math to believe each engine all over the country no matterif its built the same or notto have the same power with given parts because there are too many variables to say each will be consistant.
So to that you could say that 4whp averageis in a margin of error point where any sohc and dohc car could suprise one or the other on a given day at the track.
Paper statistics would point to put your money on a dohc equiped Neon in a race against a sohc Neonbut with a 4whp difference in these engines it depeneds on more than what these engines make for power since they are so close.
