Default Has anyone ever used both the 3.94 and the 3.55????

Hey guys need to know if anyone has used both the 3.94 and 3.55 tranny on the same motor (perferably sohc) and have any opinions about them... My 3.55 diff pin is getting worn... and its causing the transmission to jerk... so I need to swap the 3.94 in... And since the 3.94 never came on a sohc stock. I was wondering what to expect if anyone had ever driven a sohc with a 3.94

well he is a friend of mine in real life and he was telling me that a sohc would bennifit a great deal from the lower gearing on the 3.94 trans over the 3.55seeing the sohc comes alive around 2500-3000 Rpm so anything to get you into that powerband sooner is a great help. The way i remember him saying is that dohc motors were the performance option and that they also had better gearing as part of that package. sohc engines were always in the economy or highline and so they usually were cars used for gas mileage. The sohc would bennifit a good deal from the lower gears.

I did the dohc swap into my old highline and I was really disapointed because I did not notice much difference and it felt the same as it did before the swap if not a bit slower, I made the mistake of not using the dohc transmission because I didn't know there was a difference. Long story short I was talking to slash and he said the sohc transmission isn't good for either motor for a performance option I swapped in the "dohc trans" from the dohc donor carthe next weekend and I gota say there was a huge difference the transmission was an improvment 10 fold.

boxer, what are you using for a trans now if you dont have one from the dohc? if its the 3.94 trans already, your not going to gain anyhthing.. i cant remember if you had a sohc or a dohc before your swap.

The 3.94 came on all ACR's...including the SOHC ones.

It is great for acceleration, but it does kill the gas milage on the freeway for me.

so can someone brake it down machanicly speaking... using mecanical terms... what exactly will the higher gear ratio cause the car to do... Transmission gearing is one of the things I really dont understand...

The way I understand it that taller gears allow you to stay in gear longer right???
so the way i see it the 3.55 gets threw the gears really quick so it can get you in a higher gear and able to save some gas...
so in theroy the 3.94 will allow you to stay in gear longer wasting more gas but gives you better acceleration...

is my thinking right...
