Default rear drum brakes..

How hard is it to change everything in the back??? im talkn about the brake shoes and everything. all new springs and that stuff. ppl told me i can mess stuff up and the break will lock up. i never did drum brakes just the front.. my break shoes r completly gone and some parts fell out. i have a guy that can do it. just thot i could save 20 bucks. and i have a haynes manual also but that looks realy hard and dont look like my brake setup

It's not real hard, but it can be very tedious and it will test your patience.

Like das said... its easy to do, it just gets really frustrating if your uncoordinated or havent done it and don't know exactly how.

If they've been messed with before, there should be a rubber insert on the backside of the drum, then just get screwdriver to lift up the lock-bar, and another flathead to rotate the thing to turn down the brake. Them the outter cover will just come off with a little pulling. I did it on mine, and it's a minnesota car with 230,xxx miles, so they had quite a bit of rust on them too.

Then you just have to punch out a little slot. It looks like it has tin-foil over it. It's an easier job than you would think, you just have to know how to do it because your kinda taking the cover off blindly.
