Default Oil Pump Question

I know I've just about beat this subject to death but here it goes...

My wife blew my motor last night for sure no ifs ands or buts about it, well heres the deal I actually remembered to put oil in and it had oil, My question is could the smoking from the rings been caused by a badoil pump? The oil light has been coming on off and on for a while even though the oil has been filled up always.

I want to rebuild the motor but I need to know if the oil pump is to blame so I know if I need to replace. I think it may be a oil pump after seeing my sisters grand am have a rod knock and blow smoke out of the valve cover just like my Neon does but not as bad. Could bad oil pumps cause the rings to go bad before the rods?

I opened the hood on my sisters Grand Am and everthing is very chillingly simular to every problem my Neon has from lack of low end power to the smoke out of the valve cover. I never remember smoke coming out of anywhere on either motor. Could both of our oil pumps **** the bed and caused bad rings?

I also noticed very finealuminum shavings in the Neons valvetrain especially under the rocker arm shaft bores but none of them seemed big enough to cause a blockage.

Thanks

no, the smoke is caused by burning oil

noen rings get lube from the oilslpash system, meaning you have to have a pan full of oil to get proper lube

there is a a restrictor in the oil galley right beforeoil goes into the head. If the restrictor is clogged you can lose oil pressure to the valve train

The oil light has been coming on off and on for a while even though the oil has been filled up always.
couple of diffrent thing cause this, oil pressure sensor could be going bad, large internal oil leak bleeding off the pressure, or the pump is failing due to wear.
