Wheel Bearing
Ok, so I am going to replace my right front wheel bearing tonight when I get home from work. I priced out the part at Advance Auto for $47.98 and I am going to do the job at my friends house who has a hydraulic press. Are there any other special tools that I will need? Does anyone know what size the nut is that holds the hub on? I'm sure I will have to buy that socket. I am hoping to buy all the tools before I start because it is likely that the job will run past 9pm (the closing time for all the auto parts stores in the area).
Thanks!
Thanks!
seals as in???
Axle seals??? they are only on one side of the axle... the transmission side... as long as you dont let the axle hang after getting it out of the knuckle and not remove it from the transmission then your find... the hardest part is getting them pressed out...

ok thanks ... I will make sure to support the axle after removing it from the knuckle ... ya I was worried about getting the bearing pressed in and out but my friend says not to worry that he has done it before so I'll just let him worry about that!!
Ok ... so I'm a little lost ... i got the wheel, caliper, rotor and axle nut off, but now I'm staring at this hub and I have no clue how to get it off?? ... on my Ram its easy, three bolts and then just pound it off. There don't seem to be any bolts on this thing and I have no clue where to go from here. Also ... it seems as if there is no play in the hub at all ... can the wheel bearing be bad without having any play in the hub? Please help. Thank you!!

thank you very much for the help ... won't I need a pickle fork to remove the steering knuckle. also if I remove the bolts securirng the shock do I have to worry about the coil spring at all? thanks again!
no you dont need a pick fork... be a man get a long crow bar stick it in the hole in the K frame and bounce on the crow bar till the ball joint pops...I'm only 150lbs it takes me a couple mins of bouncing however if you have some more weight on you you should be able to just stand on it and it pop right out... JUST BE CAREFULL...you will see the hole im talking about and go in from above the ball joint not below, your using the the crow bar to push down the part that has the ball joint in it...cant remember what the hell its called for the life of me... you will see what im talking about... you wont have to worry about the spring as long as you pop the ball joint first... plus its in the air there wont be much pressure on the spring anyways...

When you installthe knuckletheres a notchon the ball joint shaft that lines up with the hole, the bolt wont go thru if its not lined up.You also want the drive shaft to be in the knuckle when you put in on the ball joint, other wise it can be a pain to get the axle in.

another thing i wanted to mention was if your pressing in the new bearing yourself try notto aply pressure to the inner race. its possible to damage the ***** if it gets kinked in the race
