Default 1996 Neon Coupe New Owner

OK I think I got lucky as heck here, bought a 96 5 speed SOHC for only $200 and drove it home and on short trips still drive it. I need the water pump replaced asap so I can make it a daily driver. Also have some odd electrical problems I didnt see in the other FAQ. The previous owner had butchered up the harness from the PCM to the motor with random ground wires and just dozens of splices too. I have problems with my ALT light coming on but reading a charge when tested. Also sometimes my speedo just drops to 0 when im driving or wont work at all. I am hoping if I replace my engine bay harness and the PCM it might solve the issue? And on rare occasion I get no power in the cluster unless I turn it off then back on again while driving. I added a new ignition lock he had lost the key but any issues with the electronics in the column ever been reported? Car has new clutch, brakes, tires and is in very good condition. Basically he sold it for what he paid for the tires to get it moved, home owners association said move it or they will tow it. Anything that helps! I hope to keep this on the road a while!

check the connectors on the back of the cluster somtimes they get loose. anouther thing you can try is resoldering the circut board connections (https://dodgeforum.com/m_179505/tm.htm)

Change the tensioner and timing belt at the same time.

Sounds like a good deal. I got my ACR for $400....same thing with the HOA for the guy I bought it from.

Kewl I got lucky today! I found a highline coupe in the salvage yard with the DOHC hood and tach cluster. The cluster came out very easy and I didnt notice any extra wires on it per the tach? is it part of the plug system and just plugs right in? I will have pics in a few days after ive cleaned it up a little bit (trunk lid, hood, cluster and possibly front seats) but the rest is how it was when I bought it. Water pump was an easy change too and it runs great.

The clusters are compleatly plug and play... if your car dident come with a tach before the wire will still be there from the factory just plug it in and go...

OK I finally remembered my main question now .. lol Is there an aftermarket or OEM intake I can swap with the stock one to point the throttle body sideways for a better CAI fit?? whoever designed the originalsetup should be shot .. who the hell puts an airbox on top of the exhaust manifold in the back of the engine compartment! I thought that was bunk.

yeah I would prefer the opening pointing left or right vs straight up into the hood, leaves no room for an intake thats not bent too sharp without hood modifications. I was hoping like an intake from a 2.2L or the like then I would put my battery in the trunk and route my cold air intake under the bumper that way. The cluster didnt have a grey wire but fit in nicely and everything works great two thumbs up for Mopar being plug and play. As the next few weeks progress im stripping the highline at the salvage yard, original rims still on it too and front seats look new as well. Only interior drawback im having is probably common. The dash panel parts with the AC vents. Brittle as a **** and cracked in places. Is there OEM parts I can buy from Dodge? Upper dash is fine just the vent sections are cracking and about to fall apart. I have the grey interior if anyone has them laying around wanting to sell too.
