Call your local junk yard with your manufacturing date. They will tell you.
My local junkyards are a bunch of douche bags I wouldn't trust them with telling me how much air pressure I should throw in my tires let alone cv joint questions. They will tell you just so they can sell you cv's. They told me that the 95 sohc motor was a mitsubishi motor 420A so I don't trust them and as for Chrysler dealerships they wont even tell me what their SRT-4 Fuel Pumps are rated at but their happy to sell me one for $300.So good luck with balance questions.

So my final answer is the CV joint is what needs to be balanced don't matter the year, but my best advice is keep atx axles with atx transmissions and mtx axles with mtx transmissions. Transmissions are precision cast if there was any play within those outputs the transmissions would shatter, its a myth about balance, thats total crack head meterial.

Yes it does. The story I told you was my personal exprience. The shafts are balanced differently between the years. And its was horrible! Changed everything just to find out I put a actual 98 cv into my neon with the manufacuaring date of before august 93 I think. I found out that they balanced the cv differently when the junk yards says "Whats the manufacturing date?".

ANd yea the car was so bad it was completely undriveable. It didnt do anything until you would push on the gas. Then the side if the car would hop. BAD! And if you compare them side my side they use a little different design for the shaft itself.

I think u justhad a fkd up cv. Junk yards always ask that because most of them do not know whatinterchangeswith what on every car and its easier to ask the year. I'm not taking what any junkyard says as the Gospel.
