I stuck a socket through the holes in the valve cover and there was oil in #1 & #4 spark shields (or whatever they are called) any body know whats up with this, are there seals or somthing??

 

its ur valve cover gasket seal leaking
change ur valve cover gasket and use a little bit of rtv gasket sealant wen u do. also change ur plugs, duh.

 

Its the spark plug seals. There are 4 of them. Not the valve gasket cover. But you will need to pull the cover to change them. You will also need a new valve cover gasket in the process. Dont use sealant if you buy a new gasket. Thats the point of the gasket.

ok lets not get technical, wen u go to buy a valve cover gasket does it come w 4 new spark plug hole gaskets, yes!
so tis ur valve cover gasket components leaking.
sorry didnt want to spell out spark plug hole gasket ring, figured wen he got the new gasket he would not use the old ones
and yea i would use rtv, always have and have never had a problem

 

i gotta go with him on that last part, will never be more bad than it is good...stuff works wonders
