Default header/egr

I was thinking about getting a header for my 97 dohc, but I don't want the cel to go off, especially for the egr. If I get headers, do I have to eliminate the egr, or can I still run it?

The header has nothing to do with the egr. Keep the egr if you want. Remove it if you want to drop your intake temps and stop alot of the carbon build up.

to elaborate - the EGR valve is attached to a port on the cylinder head on neons.

So if you take out the egr thats just going to have the carbon come straight out of the engine?

Yea. Which is why they make a egr block off kit. My block off is a nickel, quarter, gasket sealer, and part of a pop can.

I was just curious since my part of PA has emissions testing through the OBD 2. Does the egr block-off kit from neongoodies (I believe) that have the resistor actually work in keeping the cel light off? If so, I might look into one of those also.

The resistors will work to keep the cel light off. But it wont pass emissions with the block off. It may. But I would not risk it. All they need to do is look to see you have no egr. And thats emission gas recycling. Just look at it. Emissions is right in the name.

Ive got the Kirk long race header that replaces the cat and have yet to get a cel code for it. It has the bungs for the O2 sensors and ive done nothing to them to keep them from coding. Also, the Mopar Performace PCM will allow you to take the EGR off and it wont throw a cel code. But if you have emissions in your state, you would have to keep it. That, and use a short header to keep your cat.

you can still use a long tube header just you have to move the cat
