Default starter?

so a couple weeks ago i thought my starter went. when i turned the key, it just clicked. everything worked so it wasnt the battery or anything. so i took off the starter and took it to auto zone. it worked fine there. so i cleaned up the fittings and it started working. so today it did it again. i dont think it needs cleaned. could it have been something else the time before? thanks in advanced for all who help

If its clicking, its either the starters bad, or you have bad connections, that really all that it can be.

If it worked there i would assume battery my friend. I don't care if it shows 12.6 volts or whatever. If it pushes a load on the bench it probably is fine. If it only clicking the the first thing we think of at the shop is battery. Might be time.

I think it could be a bad altenator. Bring it to a dealer and have them do a check to see if the car is charging propally

I had a starter go bad on my Geo Metro once, and it was an intermittent problem. It just clicked when I tried to start it, but the next morning it was working fine.

Starters can work intermitantly. I would think its the starter. Bring the car to autozone and they can test the battery. Alternators generally work or don't they don't usually work sometimes and not others.
