ok i have a 97neon that I use as a dirt track car runs good but when a floor it it cuts out. If i hold the pedal about an inch from the floor its great. I changed gas, plugs, wires, resealed the tubes that cover the spark plugs cause the oil was getting in and changed the coil pack. im lost on what else it could be any suggestions?

 

probably a really stupid question since you use it as a dirt track car but, is it throwing any codes?

 

TPS...I think the potentiometer is damaged at WOT.

 

yeah i would be thinking its a sensor acting up... deff would have to agree that most likely the TPS.. but another stupid question have you changed the fuel filter?

 

im not sure if its puttin out any codes or not havent checked that. my dash is out so cant go by the CEL. and yes i did change the fuel filter. thanks

 

does it sputter only while accelerating, or any time it's full pedal, certain gears, etc.? more specifics...

 

ok just raced tonight, if I give it gas slowly its ok until i get to the floor but if I do it fast and floor it it cuts out immediately. If im in neutral just idling its good but even then if i give it gas even at about half pedal fast it cuts out. oh also is there a gasket that the TB sits on. I was going to take it off and put the TPS on but wasnt sure if there was a gasket or not and advanced auto cant get the gasket if there is one.

 

the tb has an o-ring kind of thing, not a gasket. could probably get away with silicone... but i'm not sure. almost sounds like a fuel pump maybe. not able to put out enough fuel volume. any good shop should be able to volume/pressure check the pump on the car. maybe low voltage? would cause mulitple problems, from slow fuel pump to bad spark.

they would have the tool to do it yourself very cheap. works great, and cheap enough not to worry about breaking it. not something you are going to use all the time. Go ahead and check the fuel pressure. no harm in that.
